Fishing - Boca Paila

South of Tulum, Boca Paila is known for some of the best flats fishing in the world, brimming with huge permit, massive schools of Bonefish, baby tarpon to 40 pounds, snook, barracuda, jack crevalle as well as cubera snapper. Boca Paila is on a small peninsula inside the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, a large protected area located in the center of the state. The eastern coast of the peninsula looks out on the Caribbean and the east coast borders on a mixture of fresh and brackish complex shallow-water reef system. Boca Paila is a Spanish slang term for a pass between two bodies of water separated by an island or peninsula. The peninsula is sparsely dotted with fishing lodges and the only access is through a well kept dirt road. Fresh water comes from wells.
